Defining Curls without Gel
In my 3.5 years as a naturalista, I’ve been on a quest to truly learn my hair. I’ve tried almost everything to both moisturize and define my curls. For the last year, I’ve been all about the LOC method. The LOC method stands for Leave-In Conditioner, Oil, and Curl Cream. The oil seals in the conditioner while the curl cream, or any styling product, defines your curls and or helps to style your hair the way you desire. Moisturizing your hair with the LOC method should keep your hair hydrated for at least 2-3 days. For me, a gal with high porosity hair, my follicles drink up moisture leaving my hair begging for more by day 2 at best.
I read an article on the LCO method and decided to give it a try. So I washed and deep conditioned my hair as usual before moisturizing. I applied the LCO method, placed a plastic cap on my head, then tied my scarf over it before putting on my satin bonnet. I let the natural heat from my head aid in the penetration of the LCO method as I slept. In the morning I just untied my hair, fluffed, and headed out the door! No additional leave-in conditioner, no additional styling. Later in the day, when my hair was completely dry, I picked out my roots for added volume. My curls remained defined with no gel at all! So far, I’m a fan of the LCO method. I believe that high porosity hair can really benefit from this method, especially with a thick curl cream.
