Like me, many prefer the heat free styling route because it prevents breakage and contributes to the overall health of your locks.
Here are a few tips to styling with the following curling tools.
- Style on clean and damp hair, styling on wet hair may result in shrinkage and less volume
- Using product like a gel, or your favorite curl putty will give your hair great hold and staying power
- Detangle hair before using the curling tool, skipping this may result in tangling and matting of the curls.
- Use small sections your curls will be more defined. The bigger the section, the longer the dry time and separating the larger curls can cause frizz.

Flexi Rods
Flexi rods are great and give a very unique and defined curl pattern. I would recommend leaving the rods in for as long as you can for the best definition and longevity of curl.

Spiral curl rods are a bit underestimated if you ask me, they are another great and inexpensive spiral curling tool. The curl definition and the dry time on these are great because they curls are seperated by the spiral ridges.
Perm Rods
Perm rods are one of my personal favorites. They give you so many size options, and of course the tighter the curl the more longevity that the style may have for you. The only downside that i find with the perm rod is that because of the textured bumpy surface of the rods you may find that your hair gets stuck to them if not removed very gently and carefully.
Here is a great picture of the different sizing options you can achieve with the varied perm rod sizes.
Roller Set
Roller Sets are also fantastic for a lot of styling versatility whether worn up or down or with just the curls separated and free flowing. A heat-free roller set is a great way to go.
Straw set
Yes, with actual straws! Just grab a pack of straws from your local grocery store. Here is a great video tutorial to checkout from The Chic Natural . With kinkier hair I would recommend stretching your hair first and applying your favorite curl defining cream before setting the hair onto the straws. Dry time depends on the thickness of your hair how long you allow air to circulate to the dry the curls properly. I would recommend overnight and some if you can spare the time!
CWK Girls- SSS Plates
