Great way to get in shape for summer: simply barre class

I attended my first Simply Barre class on Saturday. It probably wasn’t a good idea for me to workout before attending this class, but I thought it was be a relaxing class like yoga. Boy, was I wrong. If you’re looking for a new challenging workout that uses muscles in your body you don’t even think of using at the gym, this class is for you. This class definitely will shape your arms, thighs, abs, and booty (seat is what they called it during class).   Barre is a combination of yoga, pilates, and ballet.

Before entering the class I was instructed to grab a ball, a set of weights, and a band. Once everyone chose a spot next to a mirror and a pole the instructor introduced herself and we quickly began our workout. We started off with a warm up followed by push-ups and planks. Planks are really great because they help strengthen the core. We had to do several sets of push-ups I wasn’t sure my arms were going to make it, but I pulled through because tank top season is approaching.

After we used the weights to tone our arms we moved on to our thigh workout. We were instructed to hold the pole with one hand and squat low two times using the balls of our toes. We had to hold and flex. My legs were feeling the burn. Another set of exercises had us lifting out ”seat” up and kicking it back. My thighs are extra heavy so it seemed impossible to keep my leg kicked up for long. The instructor was very helpful walking around and helping those who were having trouble aka me!

The ab workout was very different. We had to do ab exercises that positioned a mat against the wall and the floor. This workout really strengthen my back and lower abs. After this class I really felt as though I had a full body workout and my body was still feeling the burn the next few days.
