When Preparation Meets Opportunity

Opportunity

We live in a world of instant gratification. We want everything now, quick fast and in a hurry. However when I was growing up one of the greatest lessons I learned from my parents was when preparation meets opportunity. You see I learned that hard work equals great rewards and I have seen how this has manifested in my own life.

So what do I mean by when preparation meets opportunity? Well think about it like this, could you become a lawyer without going to law school? How about a Doctor without medical school? But here is the twist, it’s not just about going to school that will allow the lawyer to become a partner in her firm or a Doctor to become chief of surgery. It is the long extra hours they put in that make them GREAT at what they do. Malcolm Gladwell in his book “Outliers” shares the idea that “it takes about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to really master a subject area or skill.” Just think about it, Michael Jordan, a man who was cut from his varsity basketball team his sophomore year of high school, was so determined to make it on the team that he practiced and trained rigorously all summer long and gained his spot on the varsity roster and you know the rest of his story, do you think Michael Jordan had his eyes set on the NBA, no he was focused on perfecting his game and in no time the NBA came calling = preparation meets opportunity. Or how about Dr. Martin Luther King and the launch of the Civil Right Movement. Do you think Dr. King, at 24 years old and a newly appointed pastor thought that as he was moving to Selma Alabama to begin his at his new church, that he would be called to a meeting and be elected President of the Montgomery Improvement Association? Yes his election to the Montgomery Bus Boycott was the match that lit the fire to the Civil Rights Movement. = preparation meets opportunity. Or how about Ms. Oprah when she started that little TV show or her network for that matter. Do you think when she was a reporter some years ago in Baltimore, making $22,000 a year or so, that she thought that she be hosting her own TV show and then her own a network? Do you think she thought that she would be leading a movement for people to Live their Best Lives = preparation meets opportunity.
The main aim is to make the most of an impending opportunity? Why did Google decide on launching a new algorithm? Well, FTC is coming hard on all those buying cialis in spain , acai berry affiliates who have abused search in more ways than one. We all have this same possibility! We get prepared doing phenomenal work where we are today as we wait with happy anticipation for tomorrow. This may be at your current job until you get the break through to start your own business or make the right contact for the next position. Or it could mean, going back to school or buying that home? It could mean perfecting YOU as you are waiting on your mate instead of hoping from one bad relationship to the next. I know this was an area I struggled in for years as I was so focused on finding a man, that I forgot to focus on me first!!! The point is, whatever you deeply desire in your life, it is time to stop looking for the microwave and for us to get back to the slowcooker! It’s time for us to set intentions in our lives and work hard to go after them and not expect the process to come over night. Just ask Beyonce, or Oprah, Michael Jordan, or any other people that put in the 10,000 hours to see all that they desire come to life in their lives. I am sure you have your own goals, desires, dreams, and so this is a call for you to do all that you can to move in the direction of your gifts, your hopes, your dreams which all is a byproduct of your greatness. Working in a preparatory sprit also calls us to keep our focus, determination, perseverance and not become distracted or diverted. So are you prepared? Or are you taking steps toward preparation? What can you today and every day going forward to move in the direction of your gifts, your hopes, your dreams your greatness?
