Why I’m a High End Makeup Snob
As far back as I can remember, I have never been a drugstore cosmetics kind of girl. Even as a teen, I prefered AVON or Mary Kay over the drugstore. Now, this doesn’t meant I don’t groove on a good Elf or Real Techniques brush, a Milani lipstick or various Beauty supply cosmetic brands from time to time. But by and large, I am most loyal to high end beauty products. Why? Well, primarily because a girl needs to try before she buys! I like taking home samples, incorporating those samples with my existing products, and seeing how they wear over time. I need to know what I’m getting into. 
Also, I’m a sucker for packaging! I love to display my products on my vanity and decorative shelves. High end beauty products tend to have amazing packaging. It’s not only gorgeous to look at , it’s often functional.
I’ve tried to get into the whole foundation side of drugstore makeup, but I find it pointless. So far, I’ve had to mix every single foundation I’ve tried. The undertones are very extreme and the color range is limited for most brands. Also, selection is often based on the demographic in your area. SO if you’re a minority, chances are you’ll have a hard time finding your shade or brands that cater to WOCs. Also quality plays a role in my selections in both departments. Most of my makeup faves are high end because a little goes a long way and it lasts forever! Whenever I’ve used drugstore, or beauty supply cosmetics, the longevity of those products just doesn’t compete. Now sure, you get what you pay for, but if I have to save a little extra to get what I really want, I’m going to do just that!
Now, there are certainly affordable makeup brands who have comparable quality to that of high end cosmetics, and I have no problem buying something that is of great value and a great price tag! But for me, I haven’t found these items in the drug store, and my local beauty supply doesn’t sell Jordana, AJ Crimson, or LA Girl Pro. So perhaps, my experience is in the minority when it comes to drugstore and beauty supply cosmetic brands. But so far, my love of makeup has lent itself to that which can be found in Sephora, Department Stores, and the right side of the Ulta isles. I am open to opposing opinions, as I understand that many of my fellow makeup lovers swear by many of the brands I’m not here for. See, I’m not 100% against all low end products. But I cannot complete my face with just these items. They play supporting roles. For the stuff that really counts, I need my high end goodies. I guess I will always need a reserve for my obsession. I’ve tried so many times to reel in my spending, but I would rather go without food than my primers and setting sprays. Priorities, right?
